Allergy bomb

Do you struggle with seasonal allergies? I do. I have for my whole life. I see my daughter, now, having trouble with coughing and sneezing around the time that the seasons change. We live in Albuquerque, NM and we have all four seasons here, so I suffer and my family suffers with allergies about four times a year.

Today, she is going to the pumpkin patch. I know she will be going on a hay ride and being outside in the wind... I did load her up with essential oils before she left the house, this morning. What did I use on my darling first grader?

Enter the Allergy BOMB.

This is my sure-fire allergy relief, roll-on.
I just roll this on the back of my neck a few times a day and I am relieved of many of my allergy symptoms.

As with most essential oils, it is best to use a little more frequently than a lot once a day.

How to make the Allergy BOMB

20 drops Lemon
20 drops Lavender
20 drops Peppermint

Fill the rest of the 10mL roller ball bottle with a carrier oil (fractionated coconut, grapeseed, jojoba, etc...)

How to stop thinning hair

I had a question recently about oils for thinning hair and any natural treatments for thinning hair. Two wonderful oils that help to clean and promote blood circulation to the scalp are Rosemary and Cedarwood.

Rosemary has a woody, evergreen like scent and is part of the mint family. In recent research, it’s been shown to boost nerve growth factor and support the healing of neurological tissue and brain function.
Native to the Mediterranean, the wooded evergreen has been used in folk medicine for thousands of years to:
            • Improve memory
            • Soothe digestive issue
              • Relieve muscle aches and pains
More recently, it has become a popular ingredient in many skin and hair care products due to its antiseptic properties and researchers are starting to dig deeper into its medicinal characteristics.

    Rosemary Oil Benefits Hair Growth
When applied over the scalp rosemary essential oil helps stimulate hair growth. Many people also claim that it can prevent baldness, slows graying, and can be used to treat dandruff and dry scalp.

Cedarwood Cedars have historically symbolized protection, wisdom and abundance.
Cedarwood essential oil is extracted through the process of steam distillation from wood pieces of the cedar wood tree.
    Cedarwood fights hair loss
Cedarwood essential oil can stimulate the hair follicles and increase circulation to the scalp. This contributes to hair growth and slows hair loss. Herbalists and aromatherapists have recommended essential oils for years to treat hair loss, thinning hair and various types of alopecia.
Cedarwood essential oil helps reduce dry or flaky scalp. It stimulates the scalp and increases circulation. To take advantage of this essential oil benefit, mix two drops of cedarwood essential oil with coconut oil to create a mixture with antifungal and moisturizing properties. Add the mixture to your scalp, and rub it in for five minutes. For the best results, let it sit on your scalp for 30 minutes or so — then wash it out.
Cedarwood essential oil can safely be applied topically on wounds as an antiseptic. It defends the body against toxins and relieves your white blood cells and immune system of stress or malfunction — this protects your internal functions and fights off bacteria in the body. Create an oil rub by mixing cedarwood essential oil with coconut oil, and then rub the mixture on your body to help with wounds, scars or infections.

New blog post - What is this all about?

I'm this new blog to talk about my bio-hacks and what I'm doing to strive for a healthier lifestyle. I have recently started using essential oils and I love what they are doing for me. Besides the fact that they smell great, they really do act as medicine in the body. I have been having some effects just from rubbing the oils on my daughter's feet at night.

This will be a short post, but a preview of things to come. I hope to have some information, some funny stuff, some family stuff and a lot of things that we can discover together.

A bit about me: I have been married for 18 years and we have a six-year-old daughter. We also have a dog and a cat. My husband and I live in New Mexico. I work for a laboratory and I am the document management specialist. I have a degree in English Literature. I love music and movies and books. My hobbies are knitting and quilting and essential oils. I also like to make friendship bracelets and paint my nails.
